Addictions

07 June 2005

I always kinda considered myself to be fairly resistant against addictions, but the anime series Hikaru no go has really caught me on the wrong foot. I watched 50 episodes (with 20 minutes an episode) in just a bit more than 3 days - yes, in a way it is reasearch for my new go film, but this became a little extreme.

Use the Adobe filebrowser in Photoshop

01 June 2005

Why is it that you always find out about these things after you spent an hour writing a script to work around it? Use the adobe filebrowser in Photoshop - it looks a bit strange if you are used to Windows, but it remembers the last file format, doesn't add " copy" to filenames and it allows drag-n-drop favorites. Neat.

Save as in Photoshop without the stupid copy in the filename

31 May 2005

Photoshop annoyed the heck out of me again today - every time you save an image as a filetype that does not support layers etc it adds " copy" at the end of the filename. Here is a script that saves the currently active document as a png at the same location where the psd file is stored. If you want to save as some other filetype you will have to change the script. Feel free to contact me if it you need help with it!

How to use:

  1. Download and copy it into your Photoshop/Presets/Scripts/ directory
  2. Restart Photoshop
  3. Choose File->Scripts->SaveAsPNG

Photoshop batch convert jpegs

30 May 2005

I wondered for ages how to convert a folder full of photoshop files to jpegs. Maybe it was obvious to everyone else in the world, but just in case anybody else is lost on this as well, I found two methods today. Method 1:

  1. Open a picture in PS
  2. Create a new action in the actions window in PS (it should switch into record mode)
  3. Click File->"Save as". Change the directory to whatever you want. Change the filetype to jpeg. Do NOT change the filename (even if it includes the stupid "copy"). Press ok.
  4. Close the file, say "Don't save any changes."
  5. Stop the recording of the action. It should look like this now:
    Screenshot convert to jpeg

  6. Choose File->Automate->Batch and select the new action, for Source choose the folder you want to convert, hit ok and watch photoshop do it's job.

Method 2:

  1. Choose Scripts -> Image Processor
  2. Adjust settings
  3. Go

GeoUrl

28 May 2005

I saw this at Fabians blog - this interesting project that is GeoUrl lets you attach gps coordinates to your homepage (usually you choose the ones where you live, but you can of course enter anything) and then shows you the online presences of the people who live near you (click the link below to see my neighbours). We just got one step closer to Gibsons cyberspace.
